Intro to HDR (High Dynamic Range) – Basic Tools, Adjustments, and Presets
This entry level course will cover many of the basics of HDR. An HDR image is an image that contains a larger range of color and tonality than a single image. Bring back lost highlights, open up shadows, and adjust tonality to achieve the perfectly natural and balanced image. We will explore the interface of Photoshop, Lightroom, and NIK, including where to find many of the key tools, what they do, and how and why to use them. We recommend bringing a laptop, but you can just follow along in class.
In this course, we will be working with and explaining the following:
- Required Equipment and Software
- Best Practices in the Field
- Selecting Bracketed Images
- Tone Mapping
- Method Strength
- Tonality Adjustments
- Reducing Ghost Artifacts
- Selective Controls
- Keyboard Shortcuts
This course is the first class to take when getting started with HDR. There is no prerequisite, but computer knowledge is helpful.
This class will be taught using Adobe’s Creative Cloud. Including Lightroom, Photoshop, and NIK.
